Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire

While David and I are headed for the Cotswolds, our accommodation (with his cousins) isn't going to be ready till Friday. Till then we're staying with some of his old workmates (from Bob Geldof's now-defunct travel dotcom Deckchair). We hope to have a lunch en route at St Martins Arms pub in Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire. Unfortunately, we arrived at 2.02pm and missed the 2.00pm kitchen cut-off for lunch. We visited the local deli to collect some of the precious things of the store - cheeses, fudge and red plonk. Then we picked up some Stilton at the Colston Basset Dairy's on-site store and finished our journey just north of Bottesford in Leicestershire.

Britta and Bob have a fantastic property, replete with duck pond, heated pool and unearthly country quiet. There's always a catch: I'm back fixing their wireless router settings to get everyone online again.
