Mrs Mills’ final fantasy

Ben Dawson - Stride and Circumstance

A few weeks back Brent recommended a recent BBC documentary Let’s Have a Party, The Piano Genius of Mrs Mills. After catching it on YouTube, I mentioned it to Ben (who has used her old Steinway upright at Abbey Road studios) and so it was inevitable that we’d find ourselves at my piano belting out Mrs Mills-ish versions of classical favourites. At the time this photo was taken, Ben was thumping through a stride version of Elgar’s Land of  Hope and Glory.

Munson declined the opportunity for a sing-along around the piano and instead opted for the –2C conditions on the terrace. Gustav, on the other hand, was elated to discover that Ben had been helming the piano for a Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall only a few weeks ago, and could still play To Zanarkand from memory.
